Tips for parents and team players about proper eating habits before, during and after a soccer game:

Eat far enough ahead so food doesn't make you sick to your stomach during the soccer game.

Eat a healthy meal about 3 or 4 hours before your practice or match.

If you must snack, eat only a small quantity of a complex carbohydrates. Foods such as cereal, English muffins, pasta or a piece of toast. Just make sure you don't eat less than an hour before the game!

Three hours before any sport activity, drink a couple of glasses of water (12 oz. sized glass).
Don't gulp! Sip the water slowly. One hour before game time, drink a little more water. During the match, drink a little water every 15 minutes or so.
Drinking fluids is important!
After the game, drink more water.

Thirty minutes after any competition, eat a meal high in complex carbohydrates to help restore your body's blood sugar (glycogen levels).

Here is a brief "soccer" biography of myself and what my plans are for this year.

My name is Carlos Gonzalez, I am this year's Coach Administrator. I have been involved with AYSO since 1993 when both my kids started, Johnny in U10 and Heather in U8. The first year I participated as a parent, taking my kids to practice and to the games (along with my wife Jennifer). After their first season I was volunteered by my wife, as assistant coach to probably one of the most fun teams I've been involved with, The Little Rascals, coached by Jim Reagan. In the fall of 1995 I became head coach of my first of many boys teams, The Dog Pound. I have the satisfaction of having had regional champion teams with The Little Rascals (GU10, 1995), The White Knights (BU12, 1996), Arsenal (BU14, 1998), BU14 All-Star Champions 1997, BU14 All-Star 1998 Area Finalists, and two of my favorite Spring Select Teams, Chivas (1996) and El Nino (1997). With the Spring Select teams we won, two bronze and a gold medal at the California State Games, 3rd at the Great Western Shoot Out, 1st at the Sun and Surf, and have enjoyed many great games.

I am also an AYSO Section Referee and have been officiating since 1995. Currently I spend my weekends on soccer fields watching my kids play, officiating games, holding evaluations, having clinics, soccer, soccer, soccer...

As Coach Administrator, my goal is to educate our coaches as much as possible about this wonderful game, so that they may be able to transmit their knowledge of the game and to bring out the best in our players, following the AYSO philosophies and guidelines.

My job as the Coach Administrator is to organize our coaching program, from soccer clinics for the coaches and kids, to the evaluation of the players and the balancing of the teams in the competitive age groups. From helping a coach at their practice, to dealing with a problem coach. From making guidelines for our coaching programs, to making sure these guidelines are followed. In a nutshell, anything that has to do with the coaches and the coaching program.

Because of my busy schedule, this season I have put away my "coach" cap, at least until we have everything running the way our Region needs it, but you will still see me officiating or checking out the games at our field.

If you have any questions or suggestions, e-mail me at Cchcarlos@aol,com or look for me at our fields, I will be happy to talk to you.

Make it fun, safe and fair.
